Dragging Marysia and our luggage to our "meet" hotel the luxurious Novotel we commented on the incredible green and hilly surrounds of Guiyang - both not good signs for us cyclists.
Having checked in we wandered back down to catch up with our good Aussie friends Viv, Linton, Andrew & Jacquie from Cairns and an array of other Redspokes cyclists - the final tally being , 10 Aussies, 1 Israeli, 1 Mexican 1 Scott 1 Welsh person and our guides from both England and China.
Setting the example the Aussies (read the Cairns alcoholics) took over the Novotels bar before heading out for an authentic Chinese dinner (some of the food resembled the color off Marysia's pale face) and of course more alcohol !
It was a great way to start off our trip and get to meet our fellow internationals while also warning that any political comments made by one K Henley did not necessarily represent our countries view even though he claimed that they did !
Our English guide Aidan although a Redspokes tour guide newbie is a really experienced cyclist, a good leader and on first impression a really nice guy giving us the confidence that the coming 2 weeks will be a great trip without incident - Henley aside !
